Sterile, single-use needles are used to minimise any risk, and adverse effects are rare. These needles are so thin that most people feel little to no discomfort, though occasionally you may feel a pulsing or aching sensation when they are inserted. If this happens, it is important to communicate with Liz if anything feels uncomfortable, as any discomfort should only last a few moments.
-
Acupuncture is generally painless, though you might feel a slight tingling, warmth, or mild pressure when the needles are inserted. The needles are extremely thin—much finer than those used for injections—so discomfort is minimal. Many patients find the experience relaxing and even soothing.
-
The number of needles varies depending on the condition being treated. A typical session may involve 5–20 needles placed at specific points, but your acupuncturist will tailor the treatment to your individual needs.
-
The number of sessions depends on the condition being treated and its severity. Acute issues may improve after 1–3 sessions, while chronic conditions might require 6–12 or more sessions for optimal results. Your acupuncturist will create a treatment plan based on your progress and goals.

To enhance the effects of acupuncture, Liz may suggest complementary lifestyle changes, such as eating a balanced diet, staying hydrated, managing stress, and practising appropriate exercises. It's a team effort towards your wellbeing, and these changes are important for achieving the best results. Open communication with Liz about your symptoms and goals is also key to maximising the effectiveness of your treatment and ensuring a holistic approach to your health.

Fire Cupping FAQs
-
Fire cupping is a time-honoured practice in Traditional Chinese Medicine that promotes circulation, eases muscle tension, and supports natural detoxification.
Particularly effective post-injury, it helps remove lingering inflammation, stimulates fresh blood flow, and restores balance to the flow of Qi.
The process begins with Liz briefly introducing a flame into the cup to heat the air inside. As the heat dissipates and the cup is placed on the skin, the cooling air creates a vacuum, drawing the skin and underlying tissue into the cup.
-
Cupping is typically not painful, though you may experience a pulling or tight sensation during the treatment.
Temporary circular marks may appear on the skin, reflecting areas of stagnation; however, these marks are painless and usually fade within a few days.
The treatment promotes healing, encourages deep relaxation, and supports overall balance and well-being.
-
Cupping is effective for muscle pain, tension, respiratory conditions, digestive issues, and improving circulation.
Particularly beneficial post-injury, fire cupping helps to remove inflammation stagnation that can persist long after an injury has healed.
It is especially useful after a plateau in healing, helping to stimulate fresh blood flow and restoring balance to the flow of Qi.
-
The circular marks left on your skin after a fire cupping session are not bruises in the traditional sense.
These marks are caused by suction, which brings blood, toxins, and stagnant energy to the surface of the skin, promoting circulation and healing.
The intensity and colour of the marks depend on the level of stagnation in the treated area.
Darker marks often indicate a higher level of stagnation, while lighter marks suggest less.
The marks are painless and typically fade within a few days to a week. This is a normal and beneficial part of the healing process.
Liz will ensure your treatment is safe and comfortable.
Moxibustion FAQs
-
Moxibustion is a TCM technique that involves burning dried mugwort (moxa) near or on specific acupuncture points to stimulate healing, improve circulation, and promote the flow of Qi.
-
Moxibustion is used for conditions like joint pain, digestive issues, menstrual discomfort, cold sensations, and fatigue. It can also support fertility and boost immune function.
-
Liz uses indirect moxibustion to ensure safety and comfort.
-
You’ll feel a gentle warmth on the treated area. Most people find it soothing and relaxing.

The time it takes to see results can vary depending on several factors. The condition being treated plays a role, with acute issues often showing improvement more quickly, while chronic conditions may take longer to address.
Additionally, each person’s body responds differently to herbal treatment, so some individuals may notice improvements sooner than others.
Consistency is also important, as regular use of the remedies is key to achieving the best results.
Some people may experience changes within days, while others may need weeks of consistent use before seeing significant progress.
Liz will monitor your response and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.
